Carrowroe House was a labour of love for the company, one of the first period properties Tom Crean worked on when he started his painting and decorating business 50 years ago and continues to work on to this present day. When the house changed ownership, the owners wanted to breathe new life into this period home and transform it into a lux boutique countryside retreat.

The project consisted of the restoration of the main house and newly repurposed stables, now a luxury guest house along with the decoration of a new family annex. To restore Carrowroe to its original state, our team of highly skilled craftsman began with the sensitive preparation of all surfaces from walls, ceiling, ceiling roses, architraves, window frames and shuttering to floors and cabinetry.

To restore Carrowroe to its original state, our team of highly skilled craftsman began with the sensitive preparation of all surfaces from walls, ceiling, ceiling roses, architraves, window frames and shuttering to floors and cabinetry.

Stripping back layers of paint and wallcoverings, repairing damped stained walls, timberwork, plasterwork, flooring and ceilings. The vast array of ceiling roses took over two months to meticulous clean and restore before painting. Surgical scalpels were used to delicately remove years and layers of paint from each intricate detail, once cleaned missing elements were remoulded and finally spray-painted preserving their fabric and ensuring every single feature was displayed in all its glory. Floors were sanded back and stained to breathe new life into the 200-year old oak floors boards. The basement, housing the many kitchens, wine cellar and storerooms were painted using breathable lime paints.

The walls throughout this period property needed major attention, years of damp, staining from soot and the many layers of coverings both paint and wallpaper, meant each wall was in desperate need of attention. Walls were abraded, filled and primed before lining paper was applied in a cross-lined fashion to ensure a smooth finish before the application of paints and wallcoverings. Timber work including shutters, doors, skirting and architrave were stripped of years of paint, restored and painted to showcase every facet. The numerous salons, formal sitting and dining rooms, bedrooms and en suites were individually themed with opulent wallcoverings and complimentary rich paints create a lux setting.
